How Does Aromatherapy Work in Weighted Products?
The practice of using infused aromatic oils can be traced all the way back to the Egyptians nearly 3,000 years B.C. The term “Aromatherapy” is thought to have been coined by a French chemist named Gattefosse around 1910, starting a resurgence of interest in the healing properties of aromatherapy.
Since those early days, numerous medical studies have sought to either debunk or substantiate the healing properties of aromatherapy. They concluded on mass that aromatherapy works in the following way:
Smell receptors located in the nasal cavity make direct links with the limbic system of the brain, an area that governs the body’s emotional responses, and with the hypothalamus, an area of the brain that controls physiologic functions throughout the body. The hypothalamus interacts directly with the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones involved in the regulation of blood pressure, hunger and thirst signals, thyroid function, sleep cycles, memory, and more.
We experience this process all the time without realizing it. We smell a batch of fresh cookies and suddenly our stomach starts grumbling. The scent of Grandma’s perfume brings up childhood memories in the blink of an eye.
The effectiveness of certain Aromatherapy varieties is such that it is now being incorporated into select labor and delivery and pediatric surgical wards to help calm patients and lessen pain. That is quite an endorsement!
At Wyatt’s Weighted Wonderland, we use the highest, food grade quality, full flower bulb or crushed leaves, in your weighted product. The aroma typically lasts years and will not stain fabric as an oil might.
To keep aromatherapy in the best condition, take care to avoid moisture.
